The short, engaging chapters keep readers invested and eager to discover what's around the next corner, and the plot deftly balances action with humor and inventive worldbuilding.

• Prose: Whimsical details and vivid imagery build the wondrous world of Murkmor, drawing readers deep into the story, while Harper’s curious and funny adolescent voice proves grounding and relatable.

• Originality: Though Harper topples underground like Alice, his "wonderland" is entirely his own—featuring farting flowers, travel by way of a guttersup’s digestive tract, and entertaining, immersive slang. Over-the-top, magical, and bursting with adventure, readers will want to return to Murkmor again and again.

• Character/Execution: Murkmor brims with one-of-a-kind characters—from the noble-minded and paternal Crowll to Lyt, Harper’s intrepid and loyal best friend. Harper’s friendships with his crew will make readers laugh—and gasp—as they defy the odds and face down Murkmor’s tyrannical dictator.
